My “Short” Political Career…

Two days ago, I published a post in which I expressed ‘shock and naaahhh’ regarding Brenner Brief  journalist Jason Blair’s assessment of President Obama’s ‘lack of transparency,’ the final proof, not to mention insult, being Mr.Obama’s so-called decision to take his oath of office “privately” as opposed to publicly. I spoke up not because I was looking for an argument, but rather because this was so far off even the mark or shadow of truth…

Mr. Blair’s reporting, if there had been any interest in truth, or fairness, would, at least, have mentioned that there is to be a “public” swearing in the following day. Mr. Blair, instead, simply informed us, essentially, that this supposed  hubris  on the part of Mr. Obama is ‘what we get’ for leaving the soul of opaque government to his own devices. Yep! We’re the ones who put him in office…

Honestly, I’d thought Mr. Blair was being… dishonest… It never occurred to me that like Jay Leno, I was “walking” into my own little Twilight Zone, “a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man,” (or at least, most men). Again, I say, it never occurred to me that Mr. Blair could not know that presidents are sworn into office on Inauguration Day because it’s… Inauguration day… regardless of whether or not it’s… Sunday… with a public swearing in the following day if it does fall on Sunday… There’s nothing “private,” or secret[ive] about being sworn in on… “swearing-in day,” and that was my point…

And it is to my everlasting shame that I was so stunned by Mr. Blair’s “response.” He first condescended  to me; then, he accused me of being an Obama fan club member; then, he impugned my motives; after which he maligned my character and research skills, with the coup de gras being the consignment of my entire blog to the dustbin of his non-remembrance…

I “get” that Mr. Blair and his colleagues do not care for Mr. Obama — and they are free to do so. My comment was in the interests of truth, veracity, and fairness — and it had nothing to do with any feelings I may have for President Obama…

Much to my disappointment, regarding Mr. Blair, there was no above-petty argument, no real challenge, and no honest engagement: There was only purile, no, infantile, name calling in the midst of which, I, a research librarian, was informed by a journalist that I am no… journalist…

People of Mr. Blair’s ilk are always arguing for a meritocracy, yet it appears to me that if one can be “employed” in the business of analysis, commentary, or just simple “reporting,” as Mr. Blair eventually claimed was all he was doing (despite his other claim that we got what we deserved for putting Mr. Obama in office), it is unacceptable that this should be orchestrated at the expense of truth, historical precedent (overstatement, mine), and just plain… reality.

If this were to become a “meritocracy,” upon what would creative writing journalists like Mr. Blair base it? All I see is the operation of privilege and cronyism based on a shared ‘hatred,’ you big, fat poopy-face…Phthpppppppp!
